Everyone seems to think so, even though they've been saying that after the Jets re-entered the league in 2011-2012 when they made their first selection in the NHL Entry Draft, picking Mark Scheifele in the first round, seventh overall.
Well, we all know what has happened since. Or, to be more accurate, what hasn't happened. What hasn't happened is progress. Save for the franchise's only playoff appearance in 2015, expectations have been, to say the least, disappointing.
Whatever the reason, and there have been many, the Jets just can't find the right combination to be successful and to become a legitimate Stanley Cup contender.
