With an almost perfect example of north-south, 60-minute hockey, the Winnipeg Jets handled the Florida Panthers with confidence on Wednesday night. The Jets handled the Cats, 4-1. The Wonderkids of Patrik Laine, Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers each scored a goal, which includes Laine's 21st of the season, Scheifele's 17th and Ehler's 13th. Shawn Matthias opened the scoring for the Jets when he tipped in Ben Chariot's shot from the blue line. Laine once again leads all rookies in goals scored. Ehlers now has six points in in his last five games, including four goals.
Jaromir Jagr collected his 1,136 assist, surpassing Paul Coffey for fifth place on the all-time list in that category when he pushed the puck along the boards to Greg McKegg for his first NHL goal.
The win keeps the Jets in the playoff hunt. They remain one point out of the second wild-card spot, presently occupied by the Los Angeles Kings. The Jets are tied at 41 points with the Nashville Predators and Vancouver Canucks.
